Saba Customer Excellence Awards

During the recent user conference held in San Francisco , Saba/Centra presented the 2007 Saba/Centra Customer Excellence Awards, recognizing superior achievement in strategic deployments. East Carolina University was awarded by receiving the “Best Academic Institution Deployment.”  This is a great achievement and indicative of the use of Centra by ECU faculty and students.  We couldn’t have done this without your hard work and continued use of Centra.  You put us at #1 and deserve to share heartily in the accolades.

“Year over year we are pleased to see how our customers have expanded their use of the Saba platform and the positive impact these implementations are having on their organizations,” added Yazdani. “We are pleased to recognize our Customer Excellence Award winners who are visionaries in the industry and continue to set new standards for implementing a people management  strategy.” http://www.saba.com/news_events/press_releases/2007/news_071108.htm

CMS Platform Project~
Thank You to Participating Faculty

At Academic Outreach, one of our major commitments is to provide a feature rich and user-friendly course management system (CMS) to support teaching and learning for both on-campus and distance education students at ECU. The objective of this CMS Platform project is to conduct a formal analysis of three different CMS platforms: Blackboard, Moodle, and Sakai .  This Fall faculty participating in the study taught a class using either Blackboard 7.2, Moodle or Sakai and by the completion of the study they will have taught with all three systems.  Thank you to all of the faculty that have taken the time to learn these new systems and for sharing your feedback.  The project will continue through the Spring 2008 semester. We will keep you informed as the project progresses.

Academic Integrity for DE Courses

Distance Education courses, whether they are fully online or blended, pose new challenges in the area of Academic Integrity.  Presenting students with guidelines or discussions concerning integrity early in each course will go a long way in securing decisions which will help develop ethical behavior and improve Academic Integrity.  An Academic Integrity web site for Distance Education is now available at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-acad/academicoutreach/Integrity/.

This web site contains information and  strategies that will help foster Academic Intergrity within online and blended courses.  Please direct questions or comments to Ginny Sconiers at sconiersg@ecu.edu or Sherion Jackson at jacksonsh@ecu.edu.
