Mission, Vision, and Rationale

The mission of the Office of Academic Program Planning and Development is to: (1) facilitate university-wide undergraduate and graduate degree program development and refinement in the academic affairs and health sciences divisions, (2) support curriculum development, and (3) support the academic success of both faculty and students.

The office's vision is to promote excellence in programs and instruction to advance the academic environment and ensure student success.

The Office of Academic Program Planning and Development is vital to the integrity of East Carolina University (ECU).  The office complements the university's mission by assuring that its academic environment includes quality programs and instruction designed for student success, and that said programs are in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Division of Academic Affairs, East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina, our regional accrediting body (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/SACS), and the North Carolina General Assembly.  The office's goals and objectives align with the university's mission, while also reflecting the recommendations generated during regularly conducted Academic Program Reviews and Non-Academic Program Reviews.  Office measures are grounded in ongoing planning and research efforts that track the core functions of the office, while also aligning with measures established for the Division and, in turn, ECU's Strategic Directions.
