Enrollment as a non-degree student is usually for personal enrichment purposes. As an applicant for non-degree admission, you must have graduated from high school three or more years prior to your intended enrollment date. Additionally, if you have attended a college or university, you must be eligible to return to that institution.

If, in the future, you choose to become a degree candidate at ECU, you must apply for degree status and supply all credentials necessary for that application. A maximum of 28 semester hours of non-degree work may be applied to any degree.

Non-degree students are not required to have the permission form on page 3 of the application completed.

Note: Individuals who have earned a bachelor's degree and who desire to enroll as a non-degree student must contact the Graduate School (252-328-6012 or http://www.ecu.edu/gradschool/) for a non-degree graduate application and additional instructions.

Students who are currently attending another college or university in good academic standing may attend ECU for a limited period of time and then return to their home institution. Such applicants must complete a visitor's application, and have a dean or other appropriate official at the parent institution verify that the applicant is in good standing. This official should also specify the courses to be taken at ECU. Enrollment as a visitor will be limited to a maximum of 28 semester hours earned at ECU. Credit earned as a visiting student at ECU cannot be used to establish eligibility for admission to ECU.
