Group SessionsThe Center for Faculty Excellence schedules group sessions periodically. Check the Center calendar for more information. Conversations About Teaching with TechnologyThis is a series of workshops among colleagues who are beginning to teach "on-line" courses. Your on-line effort can consist of supplements to campus courses or can be distance education courses in the strictest meaning of that term. The work group is exploring a number of the dimensions involved in moving from a "traditionally" taught course to one incorporating on-line teaching and learning, considering alternative ways to handle "classroom activities," and sharing experiences with faculty members who have taught on-line. The format is to focus on a topic for each workshop. To begin the conversation, a colleague will share his or her practices and experiences regarding the topic. Then those in attendance will discuss how each has implemented or might implement practices or activities involving the topic under discussion. The intent is to provide you with ideas, alternative ways of doing things, and sympathetic colleagues with whom to confer about teaching in this new environment. The goal of this activity is to help you think through your course and its on-line needs. This series is sponsored by the Center for Faculty Excellence with the assistance of the Instructional Technology Consultants and outstanding faculty volunteers. Teaching WorkshopsThe Center for Faculty Excellence sponsors a series of workshops focused on a variety of topics. Faculty members are invited to join as many of these sessions as desired. Workshops will be listed on the university's email announcement system. Winning Teaching StylesEach academic year the Center for Faculty Development sponsors a program entitled “Winning Teaching Styles.” A few of the recipients of the most recent university-wide teaching awards are invited to share with colleagues some insights into their teaching. In the past, topics such as the following have been shared.
This is always an interesting and rewarding event. Come watch some of your colleagues do what they do so well — teach! |
