I entered the CRM program in 2003 after a working as an environmental planner and archaeologist URS Corporation in Houston, Texas. The Environmental Planning group at URS is primarily responsible for creating and preparing oil spill preparedness and response documents for oil companies around the world. The majority of my time was spent preparing vulnerability analyses for ExxonMobil and working with US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on the Bayport Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The USCAE awarded me the Commander’s Coin for Merit for my work on the Bayport EIS. Since joining the program, I have worked with Dr. Timothy Runyan on the Ocracoke Project. We have created a shipwreck database for the Outer Banks area using a combination of primary research and field investigations. For a more detailed description of the project, please check our website http://www.ecu.edu/maritime/OcracokeWebSite/index.htm. Through our involvement with this project we were able to participate with NOAA in the US Navy’s “Hunt for the Alligator.” We spent a week looking for the Alligator, the Navy’s first submarine. For more information on this project, please check the project website http://www.sanctuaries.noaa.gov/alligator/hunt2004/welcome.html. I am currently finishing the required coursework for the program and hope to graduate within the next three years.
