My previous studies and work experience have been in archaeology. While at NCSU, I studied historical archaeology, and participated in a field season of the Roman Aqaba Project in Jordan. At the U. of Iowa, I studied anthropological archaeology and biological anthropology. I participated in a field season of the Verberie Buisson Campin in France, working on a Magdalenian site. I then worked for a year at the Iowa State Archaeologist’s Office as a field and lab technician. In the CRM program, I am keeping archaeology as a base of operations, but I am shifting my focus to public education and cultural tourism. During my second year, I have worked on the Ocracoke Shipwreck Project with Dr. Tim Runyan. The ultimate objective of the project is the creation of a database of shipwrecks along North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Read more about the project on our website, www.ecu.edu/maritime/OcracokeWebSite/index.htm. Through this project, I participated in the 2004 Hunt for the USS Alligator (find out about this project at http://www.sanctuaries.nos.noaa.gov/alligator/). I am still in the throes of coursework, but for my research topic am interested in the development of cultural tourism in eastern North Carolina, as a means of both protecting and preserving local cultural resources, and enriching local communities. In my “spare time” I make handcrafted jewelry and maintain a website (www.seaworthycraft.com).
