Why did you choose to attend East Carolina University?
I wanted to go to a big, public university after graduating from a small, private high school. I fell in love with the East Carolina campus and atmosphere when I came to visit because it was something new. It was also nice to receive the scholarship since I knew it would give me many opportunities and make a big school feel a bit smaller.
What has your scholarship enabled you to do?
The scholarship has allowed me to focus more on school and college rather than money. If I had not received the scholarship I would have had added stress to find work and pay for college rather than making the most of my college experience.
What unique leadership opportunities have you experienced at the university?
I am currently the president of the Women's Rugby Team, and I am also a part of the ECU Adventure Program Staff. I have also received the opportunity to meet University visitors and speakers in a small group setting.
What are your career plans/aspirations?
I plan to teach science in a high need area. I might participate in Teach for America after graduating from East Carolina. I also want to be fluent in Spanish, so I can help the Latin American immigrant population.
How have you made a positive impact while you have been at East Carolina University?
I am involved in many different aspects of the school. I play many sports, but I also do well in my classes and enjoy going to presentations. People tend to know me as the girl who smiles no matter what she is doing.
