Why did you choose to attend East Carolina University?

I chose East Carolina for its friendly atmosphere and amazing faculty members. Everyone I talked to about the academic programs and campus life was friendly and genuinely wanted to help me get all the information I needed. After I visited other campuses and received a completely different treatment, I knew this was the place for me.

What has your scholarship enabled you to do?

I have been able to meet incredible people and work with great organizations that I wouldn't have met without this scholarship. I also have been fortunate enough to travel to Madrid, Spain to study abroad for a semester. It was the most incredible experience and thanks to this scholarship I was able to travel around most of Spain and several surrounding countries.

What special undergraduate research opportunities have you experienced at the university?

I was fortunate enough to be part of the first Honors Research Colloquium and Scholar Research class. The Honors class taught us what research is and how to execute it, while the Scholar class partnered each of us with a faculty who was in the middle of research project we could help with. It was an amazing experience to be part of an interdisciplinary team and learn the process first hand.

What unique leadership opportunities have you experienced at the university?

I have been an active member of the Honors Ambassadors Marketing Committee and a tutor, and I feel both of these activities are very influential.

What are your career plans/aspirations?

I plan to travel abroad when I graduate, teaching ESL where it is needed. After that, I would like to pursue a job in writing or publishing.

How have you made a positive impact while you have been at East Carolina University?

In just three short years I have volunteered through a number of organizations both on and off campus. I have tutored at the Pirate Tutoring Center, visited the nursing home numerous times, and volunteered at the Food Bank.  I also work as the Undergraduate Coordinator of Marketing and Communications at the Honors College to help improve the College for both current and incoming students.
