Why did you choose to attend East Carolina University?
Many factors played a role in my decision to come to East Carolina. The staff members are amazing and truly dedicated to helping students succeed, the students are full of Pirate Pride and are quick to welcome new members and make them feel at home, and I liked that the university has a strong pre-med program as well as a medical school. I am very glad I decided to join the pirate nation!
What has your scholarship enabled you to do?
My scholarship has enabled me to focus on my education and career studies without having the burden of student loans and fees on my shoulders. This scholarship has allowed me to save funds that will be directed toward Medical School. It is also quite a blessing to meet and be connected to so many helpful ECU staff members and other students who are academically driven through the EC Scholars program. I look forward to the research, study abroad, and other opportunities that will granted to me through this scholarship!
What special undergraduate research opportunities have you experienced at the university?
I have not yet started any undergraduate research, but plan to engage in research in the field of my major, biology. Currently, I am not sure as to what research opportunities are available, but I can not wait to begin!
What unique leadership opportunities have you experienced at the university?
Having just arrived as a freshman at ECU, I have not had many leadership experiences thus far. Through EC Scholars, I will have opportunities to lead my peers throughout the next four years, and I am sure I will dive into other leadership positions here at East Carolina.
What are your career plans/aspirations?
After receiving my undergraduate degree from ECU, I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career as a pediatrician. I will be the one and only Dr. Soos! I have hopes to one day own my own practice, with a Dr. Seuss theme.
How have you made a positive impact while you have been at East Carolina University?
I have served and will continue to serve in the East Carolina and surrounding Greenville community. I hope to become more involved in volunteer services as the time goes on, particularly in the medical field.
