The EC Scholars Award is the most prestigious scholarship offered at East Carolina University. Students wishing to be considered for the EC Scholars Award will first need to be accepted into the Honors College.
Admission to the Honors College at East Carolina University is competitive and by invitation. Students wishing to be considered for an EC Scholars Award will first need to meet minimum eligibility criteria to receive the invitation to apply:
- Submit a completed application for undergraduate admission to East Carolina University by the priority deadline of December 1.
- Meet the following minimum criteria within both the standardized test and high school achievement categories:
- Minimum math/verbal combined SAT score of 1200 or Minimum ACT score of 27
- Minimum un-weighted GPA of 3.5 or minimum weighted GPA of 4.0
Students who met the above criteria received an invitation by mail to complete the Honors College application. The postmarked deadline for submitting the completed Honors College application and all associated materials was December 15. The Honors College acknowledged receipt of Honors College applications with an e-mail confirmation.
Applications were reviewed throughout December and January and the notification mailing was processed for all applicants on January 30, 2013.
The EC Scholars review process occurred in January and students identified as finalists were notified of their status in the Honors College notification mailing that as processed on January 30, 2013. Finalists are required to participate (in person) in the finalist interviews, luncheon, and reception during Honors College weekend (February 17-18, 2013) in Greenville, North Carolina. Recipients of the EC Scholars award will be notified by a targeted date of March 2, 2013.

Sept. 10 – Dec. 1, 2012: Qualified applicants to East Carolina University will be sent the Honors College application packet by mail
Dec. 1, 2012: Deadline for prospective Honors College students to submit a completed East Carolina University application
Dec. 17, 2012: Postmarked Deadline for prospective students to submit a completed Honors College application, including all associated materials via the Honors College application website
Dec. 16-Jan. 30, 2013: Honors College, EC Scholars, Business Scholars, and Early Assurance Program application review
Jan. 31, 2013: Targeted notification date for Honors College decisions and finalist status for EC Scholars, Business Scholars, and Early Assurance Program applicants
Feb. 17, 2013: Selection Sunday: EC Scholars, Business Scholars, and Early Assurance Program Finalist Interviews
Feb. 18, 2013: Honors College Preview Day
March 2, 2013: Targeted notification date for all EC Scholars, Business Scholars, and Early Assurance Program award recipients
April 24, 2013: Deadline to accept Honors College or special program opportunities by confirming enrollment to East Carolina University
Summer 2013: Honors College Summer Orientation (required of incoming Honors students)
Summer 2013: Honors College Kickoff Events (optional to incoming Honors students)
