Scholarships: Office of Student Financial Aid

The scholarships listed in this section are need-based and require the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All students who file the FAFSA by April 15 are given consideration. The recipients of these scholarships will be notified via their financial aid award letter. No separate application is necessary.

The following four scholarships are awarded each year, by the Student Scholarships, Fellowships and Financial Aid Committee.

Andrews Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $800 and is awarded to a full time female rising senior with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at ECU and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year.

Chevrolet Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $560 and is awarded to a full time rising sophomore, junior, or senior with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at ECU and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year.

Eastern NC Foundation Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $800 and is awarded to full time rising sophomore, junior, or senior who is a NC resident with their home county in Eastern NC, who has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year.

Lillian Jenkins Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $750 and is awarded to a full time incoming freshman with a projected gpa of at least 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for four academic years (8 semesters) contingent upon the recipient applying for financial aid, demonstrating need, and maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. At least one new recipient is selected each year.

Other need based financial aid scholarships include:

Ella D. Broughton Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman from Pamlico County, North Carolina with at least a 3.0-projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year; however, the recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Carolyn Marie Cuddy Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at a minimum of $300 and is awarded to an incoming freshman with at least a 3.0-projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year and is not renewable.

Dr. A. P. and Frances Dickson Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student who currently resides in Hoke County, North Carolina. Other criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA or projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is not renewable; however, the recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Ballard S. and Genevieve H. Gay Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $500 and is awarded to an incoming freshman from Northampton County, North Carolina with at least a 3.0-projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year and is renewable up to 3 times if the recipient applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of a least a 3.0.

Luanne Lanier Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $4,000 and is awarded to an incoming freshman that is a graduate of Lee County Senior High School, South West Edgecombe High School or Tarboro City High School. The recipient must have at least a "B" average in high school and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year and is renewable up to 3 times if the recipient applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5.

Chall Ralph Little Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student with at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year; however, the recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Myrtle Little Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student with at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year; however, the recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

James Lee Love Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student who is a North Carolina resident. Other criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA or projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is not renewable; however, the recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she applies for financial aid; demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Beulah Little Mason Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $4000 and is awarded to incoming freshman with priority given to students who attended Bath Elementary School or currently reside in the Bath Elementary School District and who are graduates of Northside High School, Pinetown, North Carolina. Recipients must have at least a 2.8 high school GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is renewable up to 3 times if the recipient applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 after the Freshman year, a 2.75 after the Sophomore year, and a 3.0 after the Junior year.

Jeanette Ambrose Mizelle Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $2,000 and is awarded to an incoming freshman that graduated in the top 15% of their class from Plymouth High School, Plymouth, North Carolina and demonstrates financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year and is renewable up to 3 times if the recipient applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5.

NC Sheriffs Association Criminal Justice Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student who is a North Carolina resident and has a declared major of Criminal Justice. Other criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA. First priority in selection is given to (1) a son or daughter of a NC sheriff or (2) a son or daughter of a NC deputy sheriff or (3) a son or daughter of any NC law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty. Second priority is given to (1) a son or daughter of any NC sheriff or deputy sheriff who is deceased or retired or (2) the son or daughter of any NC law enforcement official, active or retired. Third priority is given to any NC criminal justice student with demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is not renewable.

Henry C. and Frances P. Oglesby Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $1,000 and is awarded to an incoming freshman from Eastern North Carolina with at least a 3.0-projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year and is renewable up to 3 times if the recipient applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Patient Circle of the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $2,500 and is awarded to a Pitt County High School graduate with at least a 3.0-projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is for one academic year and is renewable up to 3 times if the recipient applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Lester R. Ridenhour Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $600 and is awarded to an incoming freshman that is a graduate of an Alamance County High School, demonstrates financial need and has at least a 3.0-projected GPA. The scholarship is for one academic year; however, the recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Charles C. Scoven, III Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at $300 and is awarded to an incoming freshman from the Richmond, Virginia area with priority given to graduates of Monocan High School. The recipient must have at least a 2.5 high school GPA and at least a 2.5-projected GPA at ECU as well as demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is renewable up to 3 times if the recipient applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5.

C. M. and M. D. Suther Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to a full time undergraduate student who is a resident of North Carolina. Other criteria include a minimum 3.0 GPA or projected GPA and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is not renewable; however, the recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she applies for financial aid, demonstrates need, and maintains a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0.

Trade Oil Scholarship

Scholarship is valued at a minimum of $1,000 and is awarded to a full time undergraduate student with at least a 2.5 GPA or projected GPA. First priority is given to students who can furnish proof that they are children of full time employees of Trade Oil Company who have at least one year service with the company. The scholarship is not renewable; however, a recipient may be considered in subsequent years if he or she maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5. East Carolina University can nominate one qualified applicant for the following scholarships. The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority chooses the recipients. Applications are available in the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Jagannathan Scholarship

Value of the scholarship is variable. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman that is a North Carolina resident. Recipients are chosen on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Special consideration is given to applicants whose parents are employees of Tolaram Polymers, Cookson Fibers, and related companies. Applicants are required to complete the Financial Aid Profile form as well as the FAFSA and the Jagannathan application by early February. The scholarship is renewable contingent upon continued satisfactory academic progress, full time enrollment and financial need.
