Summer Financial Aid Eligibility

The availability of financial aid is contingent upon fund balances remaining after the academic year is completed. The deadline to submit the Summer 2013 Financial Aid Application for Term 1 and 3 is May 24, 2013 and June 21, 2013 for Term 2. The 2012-2013 FAFSA must be completed by June 15, 2013.

  • To be considered for summer school financial aid a student must be accepted for enrollment as a degree seeking student; enrolled for at least 6 credits as an undergraduate student or 5 credits as a graduate student, excluding repeated coursework, for the summer; have a completed 2012-2013 FAFSA on file; and submit a Summer 2013 Financial Aid Application. Students must be preregistered for credits before summer application will be processed.
  • Please be aware that courses you have previously taken and "passed" with a grade of "D" or better MAY NOT count towards the definition of half-time for financial aid. For additional information, refer to Repeated Coursework.
  • Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid at East Carolina University.  They should contact their home institution for financial aid options.
  • Students who plan to take courses at schools other than ECU during Summer 2013 must plan to pay for those courses out of pocket. Students taking at least one summer course at ECU may apply for financial aid and indicate on the Summer 2013 Financial Aid application that they are taking courses in addition to the ECU courses.  Students must submit the Permission to Take Courses at United States College or University or Permission to Take Courses at a Foreign University form and the Summer 2013 Financial Aid Application to be considered for a Consortium Agreement.
  • Students enrolled in thesis/dissertation courses (7000 or 9000) are considered full-time for financial aid purposes.
  • Students who are only applying for a Parent PLUS Loan and/or Alternative loan must complete the Summer 2013 Financial Aid application before the loan can be certified.  Please allow thirty processing days for private/alternative loans.
  • Students who change enrollment may have their summer financial aid reduced or cancelled.
  • Financial Aid will be paid in 1 disbursement beginning at the point the student is enrolled half time (example... students enrolled in 3 hours Summer 1 and 3 hours Summer 2 will not have their aid begin to disburse until Summer 2 begins).  For disbursement information, please refer to Summer 2013 Financial Aid Disbursements.
  • Federal Work Study (FWS) is available for summer school.  FWS is a federally funded employment program for students who have demonstrated financial need.  To be eligible for the summer program students must have completed a FAFSA for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.  Students may work from May 13, 2013 through August 2, 2013 for a total of 12 weeks.  FWS is available to enrolled and not enrolled student for the summer. Students interested in Summer FWS will need to complete a Summer 2013 Financial Aid Application.
