Student Financial Aid

Application Process

To apply for grants, loans, work-study and some scholarships you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal, state and university aid programs.  Even if you think you may not be eligible, we encourage you to apply. The FAFSA will become available January 1st.

The SEOG grant program for North Carolina residents has a FAFSA application deadline of March 15 for each academic year. However, other programs may have priority deadlines of March 1st.  We urge you to file your FAFSA as soon as possible. To ensure that East Carolina University received your FAFSA information, please be sure to include ECU's Federal School Code 002923 on your FAFSA. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You can request a paper copy by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID.

We encourage you to apply online.  This will ensure faster processing and helps you to avoid errors that could lead to costly delays. You may apply for aid before you receive your admission decision from East Carolina University, however you will not receive an award notification until you have been admitted into a degree seeking program of study.
