How do I apply for financial assistance?

To apply for grants, loans, work-study and some scholarships complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal, state and University aid programs. Even if you think you may not be eligible, we encourage you to apply. The FAFSA will become available January 1st.  East Carolina University’s priority deadline to submit the FAFSA is February 15th.

The FAFSA is available on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID. We encourage you to apply online, so your information will be processed faster. Also, building software support helps you avoid errors that could lead to costly delays.  Paper FAFSAs are available in high school guidance offices and college financial aid offices.  To ensure that East Carolina University receives your FAFSA information, please be sure to put ECU’s federal code on your FAFSA. ECU’s Federal School Code 002923.

You may apply for aid before you receive your admission decision from East Carolina University. However, you won’t receive your award notification until you have been admitted.

Don’t Get Scammed!

Recently, a number of ECU students and families have received letters in the mail soliciting money to apply for scholarships and financial aid.

ECU’s Office of Student Financial Aid would like to remind you that you should never pay to apply for scholarships, grants or any type of financial assistance. Please contact us immediately if you have any questions regarding mailings or emails that ask you to pay money in order to receive a scholarship. Our staff is always available to help direct you to free scholarship search resources and to assist you in the process of applying for federal, state and institutional aid.

In addition, always go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to submit your Free Application for federal Student Aid. ECU does not require any application that charges a fee to apply for financial aid.

The letters and emails you receive may claim an affiliation with ECU, but our university does not use or work with these companies. Again, if you have any doubt please check with our office.
