Summer 2017 Financial Aid Information and Application Process
Summer Financial Aid Application:
The 2017 Summer School Financial Aid Application must be completed and signed to be considered for summer financial aid. The deadline to submit a 2017 Summer School Financial Aid Application is May 19, 2017 for Summer Session 1 & 3 (11-week) and June 23, 2017 for Summer Session 2.
The 2016-2017 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must have been completed, including ECU’s Federal School Code (002923). If you have not done so, you may complete it at www.fafsa.gov. The deadline to complete a 2016-2017 FAFSA for summer financial aid is June 15, 2017.
Students who are only applying for a Parent PLUS Loan and/or Alternative loan must also complete the 2017 Summer School Financial Aid Application before the loan can be certified. Please allow thirty (30) processing days for private/alternative loans.
Summer Financial Aid will be processed based on enrollment in at least six (6) undergraduate credit hours, not including repeated coursework, for undergraduate students and at least five (5) graduate credit hours, not including repeated coursework, for graduate students, unless only requesting Federal Work Study. Students do not have to be pre-registered for credits to apply for summer financial aid.
Undergraduate students must be enrolled in undergraduate courses and Graduate students must be enrolled in graduate courses to receive financial aid.
Repeated coursework may not be eligible for financial aid. Courses you have previously taken and "passed" with a grade of "D" or better may not count towards the definition of half time for financial aid.
Students enrolled in thesis/dissertation courses (7000 or 9000) are considered full-time for financial aid purpose.
If you change your enrollment, you must notify the Financial Aid Office of those changes. Your aid may be reduced or cancelled.
If you fail to enroll in a minimum of (6) semester hours as an undergraduate or five (5) semester hours as a graduate your financial aid will be cancelled. Any money that has been disbursed to your student account will be removed and you may owe East Carolina University a balance.
Students planning to take courses at schools other than ECU in Summer 2017 must plan to pay for those courses out of pocket. Students must submit the Permission for Undergraduate Students to Take Courses from U.S. Colleges/Universities Other than East Carolina University from the Office of the Registrar, in addition to the 2017 Summer School Financial Aid Application. Students must be taking at least one summer course at ECU to be considered for financial aid through a consortium agreement.
Only students admitted to degree programs at ECU may receive aid. Visiting summer students are NOT eligible for aid at ECU and should inquire about financial aid options at their home institution.
All students will be considered for federal loans unless you check to DECLINE on the 2017 Summer Financial Aid Application.
All awards will be automatically accepted. Students will be notified via ECU e-mail once awarded. Students may choose to decline an award by submitting a written request to the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Summer Aid Disbursement:
Summer Financial Aid, excluding Federal Work Study, will be paid in ONE disbursement at the point the student meets half-time status.
