What types of financial assistance are available?
At East Carolina University, over 70 percent of our undergraduates receive some form of financial aid. Most families use a variety of resources to pay for college expenses.
Scholarships - Gifts of money that do not need to be repaid. Scholarships usually recognize special achievements in academics, talent and leadership; they can come from a variety of sources.
Need-based Grants - Funds that do not have to be repaid. These grants are generally awarded to students with the greatest financial need.
Employment and Service-Related - Funds that are earned by the student. East Carolina University has two work programs in which students can be considered for participation. One program is based on need.
Loans - Funds that you or your parents may borrow to pay for school. You must repay the money over a period of time.
Tuition Installment Payment Plans - Paid for in five installments, for fall semester starting in June and ending in October. Spring semester should be paid for in five installments as well, starting in November and ending in March.
