Academic Awards Committee
December 1, 2005
Members present: Chuck Boklage (Chair), Patricia Dragon, Lida Dutkova-Cope, Paul Gemperline, Sylvie Henning, Bob Lust, Carey Martin (Vice Chair), Meagan Wallace (Student rep)
Members absent: Jim Chandler, Chris Jantzen, Heather Ries, Jennifer Williams
The chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm.
Our student representative, Meagan Wallace, introduced herself to the group. The chair placed her on the Teaching Awards subcommittee.
Subcommittee members received copies of the portfolios for the nominees for the Five-Year Achievement Awards for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity (4 nominees), and for the Lifetime Achievement Awards for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity (1 nominee). The chair distributed guidelines for the granting of the awards to the subcommittee members.
Portfolios for the Max Ray Joyner Award for Faculty Service Through Continuing Education, the University Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Robert Jones Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching were not available at the time of the meeting, because the deadline for their submission was that day. Subcommittee members were informed that portfolios of nominees for these awards would be available for review in the Faculty Senate Office after Dec. 1. There will not be multiple copies.
The chair informed all subcommittees that they would now need to meet and decide how they will conduct their work. Those present indicated they would probably conduct their business via email. The deadline for subcommittees to make recommendations is February 2006.
The Board of Governors awards committees to which this group supplies members will be convened by Dot Clayton.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:35 pm.
Minutes taken and respectfully submitted by Patricia Dragon (substituting for Jennifer Williams).
