The University Curriculum Committee met on Thursday January 11,
1996 at 1:30 p.m. in Brewster B-104.
Minutes of the December 7, 1995 meeting were approved as
distributed.
Richard Hauser (School of Business) proposed changes in BSBA to
require CSCI 2618 and delete option of ACCT 3551 or ACCT 3621.
Neal moved approval. Powers seconded. The motion passed.
John Stevens (Foreign Language) presented revision of Classical
Studies Minor and editorial revisions of course description and
titles for LATN 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004; and GRK 1001, 1002, 1003,
1004. Grossnickle moved approval. Powers seconded. The motion
passed.
Tony Schreiber (CSDI) presented revisions of Sign Language
Studies/lnterpreter Preparation Curriculum. Program title change
to "Sign Language Studies/Pre-interpreting Minor; add new course
CSDI 3100; change CDSI 3990 from minor requirement to elective;
change program phases to options and only require one option;
change course description CSDI 2020 and CSDI 2030; change course
description and prerequisites for CSDI 3060, 3070, 3080, 3090;
and, change prerequisites for CSDI 3091, 3990. Grossnickle moved
approval. Powers seconded. The motion passed.
Dot Muller, Jack Schmidt, Don Joyner (Education) presented a
request for COAD 1000 (previously EDUC 1000) title change to
Student Development and Learning in Higher Education; with
graduation credit of 2 s.h. Powers moved approval of COAD 1000 as
amended with 1 s.h. of graduation credit. Knight seconded. The
motion passed.
Peggy Wood (Allied Health) presented proposal for; new course
HIMA 4000; revision of cognates and general education courses;
revision of HIMA 3995; change course title HIMA 3040, 4030, 4040;
change catalog description HIMA 3035, 3990, 4025, 4035; change
catalog description and course title HIMA 3025, 3055, 4015, 4020,
4995. Shea moved approval. Neal seconded The motion passed.
Anne Dickerson and Jane Painter (Allied Health) presented
revisions to Occupational Therapy curriculum Request to increase
entry GPA to 2.8; delete MATH 1065 as a prerequisite for
admission; revise OCCT 3007, 3008, 4006, 4008, 4041; new course
OCCT 3011, 3010, 4007, 4009, and 4042. Shea moved approval of new
courses and incorporated changes. Neal seconded. The motion
passed. Shea moved approval of the request to delete MATH 1065.
Harris seconded. The motion did not pass with one abstention.
Joyner moved approval of the increase in GPA to 2.8. Harris
seconded. Motion did not pass. The Chair will discuss suggestions
regarding these results with the Department.
Yong Yang and Jim Wilson (Geography) proposed revisions to GEOG
4400 and 5400. Neal moved approval. Shea seconded. The motion
passed.
The Chair distributed a proposal from Byron Coulter regarding
transfer/general education credits for courses in Black
Literature and African American History and Literature. It was
the consensus of the committee that the Chair refer this to Don
Sexauer.
The Chair requested that available committee members meet on
Wednesday January 17, 1996 at 8:30 in Parmalee Hawk's office
(Education) to review materials for Teacher Education revisions.
This would assist preparation of the agenda due to the volume of
materials to be presented at the next curriculum committee
meeting.

1:30 p.m.
