University Curriculum Committee

 

The University Curriculum Committee met on Thursday,

27 March 1997 at 1:30 p.m. in Brewster B-104.

 

Powers moved approval of the minutes of the 13 February

and the 27 February meeting as amended.  The motion

passed.

 

David Haskins and Elliot Frank(School of Music) presented

the following items for consideration:  revise distribution of

Ensemble credits for Guitar Performance majors; new

course MUSC 2268; delete MUSC 2615, 3615, 4615, 2645,

3645, 4645, 2655, 3655, 4655, 2665, 3665, 4665, 2605,

3605, 4605, 2625, 3625, 4625, 2635, 3635, 4635, 2675,

3675, 4675, 2705, 3705, 4705, 2715, 3715, 4715, 2715,

3715, 4715, 2735, 3735, 4735, 2745, 3745, 4735, 2755,

3755, 4755, 2765, 3765, 4765, 2805, 3805, 4805, 2815,

3815, 4815, 2825, 3825, 4825, 2835, 3835, 4835, 2845,

Thomas Huener moved approval, Martha Lapas seconded. 

The motion passed.

 

Roger Biles (History) presented a request to add a new

course HIST 2222.  Evelyn Powers moved approval, Martha

Lapas seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Diane Kester (Library Science and Information Studies)

presented revisions to the BS in Communication program

including: increase required major hours to 37; include

provision for waiving minor; change name of concentration

to NEWS, change course titles EMST 1010, 2519, 4530,

4810; revise EMST 2520 & 4010; drop EMST 2030 and

include LIBS 1000 & 3530 are added to required courses; in

performance concentration 2210 is dropped 2510 is added

as a requirement; change prerequisite for EMST

2610,3591,3592,3593,3901,3902,3903,3904,4981,

4982,4983,4991 & 4992.  Carol Cox moved to table, JoAnn

Jones seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Helen Parke and Scott Watson (Science Education)

presented a request to add a new course SCIE 3216. 

Evelyn Powers moved approval as amended, Carol Cox 

seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Linda Allred presented a request to revise the Women's

Studies Major and Minor: add  COMM 4035, POLS 3040 &

SOCI 3400 to social sciences area; add ENGL 5330 &

delete ENGL. 3670 from humanities electives; add ANTH

2025 & ENGL 3100 and 5360 to diversity electives; add

CLAS 2400,COMM 4035,ENGL 5330,POLS 3040, RELI

3000 & SOCI 3400 to general electives; state in minor that

only one course in diversity may count toward minor. 

Caroline Ayers moved approval as amended, JoAnn Jones

seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Jim Smith (School of Business) requested changes

including: add ACCT 4551 to list of international courses;

drop ACCT 3901 as choice in Finance concentration; add

FINA 3824 as a core choice in Management Accounting

concentration; bank FINA 4864.  Caroline Ayers moved

approval as amended, Tijjani Mohammed  seconded.  The

motion passed.

 

Jimmie Grimsley, Martha Selby & Catherine Bolton (School

of Health and Human Performance) requested approval of

the following: revise admissions requirement for BS in

Physical Education for preparation of teachers; revise

required courses for BA in Exercise and Sport Science and

minor; revise BS in Exercise and Sport Science Health and

Fitness Specialist Option-delete PSYC 3201 & 3240 , add

PSYC 3206 in social sciences, in basic core delete EXSS

2900 add 3 hours of approved electives, delete 3220 & 3221

and add 2200 & 2221, revise admissions requirements;

revise Exercise Physiology Option including change

required cognate courses to include one of following PSYC

2101, BIOS 1500, MATH 2238 or 3228; include CHEM 2750

& 2741, allow BIOL 3310 & 3311 for 5800, delete BIOL 5801

from list; drop EXSS 3950, 3951 & 3952 as basic core

courses, new courses [as electives] EXSS 4500, 4501 &

4502.  Carol Cox moved approval as amended, Evelyn

Powers  seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Harrell Allen, Kathryn Greene, Festus Erribo

(Communications) requested approval of communications

courses as general education courses including:  change

prerequisite for non-majors taking COMM 3050, 3290 and

3615 and approval.  JoAnn Jones moved approval as

amended, Carol Techman seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Chia-yu Li (Chemistry) requested the following changes:

change course description CHEM 1150, 1151, 1160 & 1161

& 2250 & 2251.  Caroline Ayers moved approval as

amended, Evelyn Powers  seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Charles Bland (Biology) requested the following:  revise BS

Biochemistry by dropping PHYS 2250, 2260 & 2270 and add

PHYS 2350 and 2360 as required cognates, reduce cognate

hours to 27 sh, delete BIOL 5940 & 5941.  Carol Techman

moved approval, Evelyn Powers seconded.  The motion

passed.

 

Ron Graziani(Art) requested the following:  change

prerequisite ART 1015 & 1030.  Tom Huener moved

approval, Martha Lapas seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Parmalee Hawk representing the CTE curriculum committee

requested revision of academic concentrations  in

Anthropology, Psychology, Geography and Social Studies. 

Evelyn Powers moved approval, Caroline Ayers seconded. 

The motion passed.

 

Jim Smith[by memo] requested the deletion of LEED 5334 &

HESC 4000, 4400, 5020. Jim Smith moved approval, JoAnn

Jones seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Mary Jackson (Social Work) requested the revision of

SOCW 5900.  JoAnn Jones moved approval, Tijjani

Mohammed seconded.  The motion passed.

 

Dorothy Muller requested the approval of the application for

permission to plan a baccalaureate degree in

Multidisciplinary Studies and the addition of new courses

MULT 3500 & 4999.  Carol Techman moved approval,

Evelyn Powers seconded.  The motion passed.

 

The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
