University Curriculum Committee

 

The University Curriculum Committee met on Thursday,

March 12, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. in Brewster B-104.

 

AGENDA

Approval of the minutes of the 26 February meeting. Powers

moved to approve as amended. Joyner seconded. Motion

passed

 

Southard, Siegel (Dept. of English): 1)new courses ENGL

3830 & 5890. Joyner motioned for approval, Graziani

seconded, motion passed. 2) general humanity education

credit ENGL 2900. Powers motioned for approval.

Knickerbocker seconded. The motion did not pass.

 

Chia-yu Li, Parham (Dept. of Chemistry) new course CHEM

2762; delete CHEM 2731, 2741, 2751 & 2761 and replace

with 2762. Ayers motioned for approval. Powers seconded.

The motion passed

 

Huener School of Music -1) credit hours for Applied Music,

Private, probation level and cognate courses: under Church

Music PHIL 1695 & 1696 become recommended; music

education - change PYSC 1000 to recommended; Jones

motioned for approval. Ayers seconded. The motion passed.

2) music therapy - list ANTH 1000, 2200, & SOCI 2110 and

PYSC 3206 or 2201 or 3240 as recommended, change

PYSC 1000 as cognate; music theory/composition- PHYS

1050, 1090/91 list as recommended, voice performance

DNCE 1011,1012 or 1013, THEA 1010 list as

recommended. Jones motioned for approval. Ayers

seconded. The motion passed

 

Snyder (Dept. of Geology)- unbank GEOL 5000 & 5001.

Lapicki motioned for approval. Powers seconded. The

motion passed

 

Doty (School of Business) approval of admissions policy for

students seeking a second undergraduate degree in

business; change name of Finance concentration to

Managerial Finance; add FINA 354 to choose from list in

Managerial Finance concentration, add FINA 3554 as

alternative for FINA 3144 in Financial services concentration

& change ACCT 2521 from prerequisite to corequisite for

FINA 3724; change prerequisite for ACCT 3551 to ACCT

2521 & make FINA 3724 a pre or corequisite for ACCT

3551; change name of MGMT 4402 and delete HIST 3440

from Europe list in international business concentration.

Smith motioned for approval. Knickerbocker seconded. The

motion passed

 

Williams (School of Nursing) revise and increase credit

hours for NURS 5620. Graziani motioned for approval.

Joyner seconded. The motion passed

 

Wolf Dept. of Anthropology - new course ANTH 2005.

Knickerbocker motioned for approval. Mohammed

seconded. The motion passed

 

Johnson (School of Human Environmental Sciences) new

course CDFR 5007; revise HESC description; revise CDFR

3200 & 4406 and revise child studies minor-delete CDFR

4303, 4306 & 4406, add 9 s.h. CDFR electives above 2999.

Ayers motioned for approval. Jones seconded. The motion

passed

 

Swanson, Biles (Dept. of History) revision in the degree

program BS in Public History, replaces option II and delete

option I; revision in the minor in Public History- replaces

current B listing; new courses: HIST 3900, 3993, 4940,

4941, 4942, 4943, 4944, 4945, 4946, 4947, 4948,3205,

3444 & 4444; delete HIST 5940, 5941, 5942, 5943, 3425 &

3440; unbank HIST 3130 and bank 5210. Wolf motioned for

approval. Knickerbocker seconded. The motion passed

 

Alley, Greene (Dept. of Communications) request that

communications be listed as a general education social

science area on page 53. Wolf motioned for approval.

Knickerbocker seconded. The motion passed

 

Olson (Dept. of Theatre and Dance) revise musical theatre

concentration including add option of MUSC 1018, 1028;

add THEA 3003 or 3007. Huener motioned for approval.

Ayers seconded. The motion passed

 

Bays (Dept. of Economics) reduce total hours in BA & BS

degree programs to 120- by reducing the number of free

electives; delete FINA 3144 as cognate in the applied option

of BS program; create honors program and new courses

ECON 450 & 4551; bank ECON 1000; change prerequisite

ECON 4430; change title of ECON 3353. Jones motioned

for approval. Mohammed seconded. The motion passed

 

Parrillo, Glascoff, Walsh, Botton(School of Health and

Human Performance) Dept. of Health Education revisions of

community health track including-unbank HLTH 3000; delete

HLTH 4610, SOCI 3289 & PHIL 3281 from track; revise and

renumber HLTH 5000, 5010&  5020; add BIOS 5010 and

replace BIOS 5021 with MATH 3228; Dept. of Exercise and

Sport Science- unbank EXSS 5904; change cognates for BA

and BS in Exercise and Sport Science and BS in Physical

Education for preparation of teachers, new course EXSS

4850; new courses HLTH 1800, 2810 & 2811.

Knickerbocker motioned for approval. Graziani seconded.

The motion passed

 

Knickerbocker motioned as requested to delete the

statement "Successful completion of any of the following

courses is. . . testing.) from pages 107, 109, & 112 of the

undergraduate catalog. Ayers seconded. The motion

passed.
