Minutes of the University Curriculum Committee Meeting of 4-25-02

I. The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:00, and made apologies for Taylor.
II. An editorial amendment to the prerequisites and course description for ART 3975 passed on 4-28-02 was presented by Prof. Sharon Pruitt. Markowski moved approval, Batie seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
III. Prof. Rick Bamberg presented new courses CLSC 4772, 4773, 4774 and 4777. Prof. Ron Mitchelson moved approval with editorial changes, Lapicki seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
IV. Mitchelson presented new course GEOG 4340. Estes moved approval, Huener seconded. Mitchelson recused himself from voting; motion passed unanimously. Mitchelson presented revisions to the Certificate in Geographical Information Science. Estes moved approval, Batie seconded. Mitchelson recused himself; motion passed unanimously.
V. Prof. Larry Means presented course revisions and renumbering of PSYC 4312, 4315 and 4340. Means withdrew request that these courses receive GE:SO credit. Lapicki moved approval, Estes seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
There being no other business before the committee, the meeting was adjourned.

DEPARTMENTAL CERTIFICATE IN GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SCIENCE
The course of study for the geographic information science (GIS) certificate provides theoretical and technological competencies that prepare students to develop and manage geographic information projects and to interpret and implement GIS as a decision support system. The program enhances basic and applied research capacity at the undergraduate level. A minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA is required for admission. The student must maintain a B average in the certificate courses to remain in the program and receive the GIS certificate. The certificate requires a minimum of 15 s.h. as follows:
