                 UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE

                    MINUTES OF APRIL 13,1995

 

The University Curriculum Committee met on Thursday, April 13,

1995 at 1:30 p.m. in Brewster B-104.

 

The minutes of March 23, 1995 were approved as amended. Wease

moved approval as amended. Seconded by Powers. Passed.

 

Richard Caston, Department of Sociology, presented a request to

revise the B.S. in Applied Sociology and B.A. in Sociology; add

SOCI 4200 (Advanced Techniques in Quantitative Sociology), SOCI

4201 (Advanced Techniques in Applied Research), SOCI 4202

(Special Topics in Applied Social Research), SOCI 4322 (Law and

Social Change), SOCI 4500 (Work and Organizations)bank SOCI 3214,

3429, 4960; delete SOCI 3016; revise SOCI 3213, 3216, 3410, 4800,

4385, 4950, 4951, 495. Harris moved approval. Seconded by

Gartman. Passed.

 

M. Gallagher, Howard Barnes, and Jannis Shea, School of Human

Environmental

Sciences presented a request to add HESC 3999 (Issues in Human

Environmental Sciences: An Integrated Approach), 4999 (A

Multifaceted Approach to Professional Development in Human

Environmental Sciences); delete HESC 1001, 2001, 3001, CDFR 2202;

bank NUHM 5050, 5305, CDFR 2290, 3203, 4411, 5420; revise majors

in Nutrition and Dietetics, Hospitality Management,

Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles, Interior Design, Child

Development and Family Relations, Community Services, Child Life

and B-K Teacher Education; revise CDFR 2201, 5366, 5413, 5414,

5415, 5408; revise CDFR minor. Shea moved approval as amended.

Seconded by Powers Passed.

 

Scott Watson, School of Education, presented a request to revise

the B.S. in Science Education and revise the minor in science.

Letters of support were provided from the science departments as

requested by the committee. Powers moved approval as amended.

Seconded by Harris. Passed.

 

Ted Gartman, School of Social Work, requested the deletion of the

Social Welfare minor. Wease moved approval. Seconded by Harris.

Passed.

 

Larry Auld, Department of Library Services and Educational

Technology, requested the addition of EDTC 4240 (Virtual Reality:

Introduction and Basic Applications). Shea moved approval as

amended. Seconded by Powers. Passed.

 

The committee reviewed the latest draft of the document

"Procedures for Submitting Curricular Requests to UCC". Harris

moved approval. Seconded by Gartman. Passed.

 

The committee reviewed the latest draft of the revised course

proposal form. Wease moved approval as amended. Seconded by

Powers. Passed

 

The committee discussed the request to establish a diversity

requirement. This item will be carried over for consideration at

the beginning of the fall semester.

 

The annual report of the committee was circulated. Joyner moved

approval. Seconded by Gartman. Passed.

 

The chair thanked the committee for their service this year.

Special recognition was given to those members who are completing

their terms: Ted Gartman, Bob Joyner, Jim Smith, Evelyn Powers.

Hugh Wease was thanked for his many years of service and best

wishes were offered for his impending retirement. Thanks were

also extended to Sharon Bland for her continuing efforts on

behalf of the University Curriculum Committee. Special thanks

were offered to the secretaries for their continued efforts.

 

The minutes of this meeting will be circulated and considered

approved unless the membership finds extensive errors.

 

The meeting adjourned at 3:40 p.m. The next regularly scheduled

meeting will be Fall, 1995.
