The committee met Thursday, 26 Sept 2002 in Brewster B-104.

- Hudson called the meeting to order at 2:03.
- The minutes of the 12 Sept 2002 meeting were approved.
- Honors Program Director Michael Bassman and Associate Director Cathy Hall presented new honors seminar courses HNRS 3011 (humanities), 3012 (fine arts), 3013 (social sciences), 3014 (science), and 3015 (science laboratory). Some discussion ensued regarding how instructors and topics are selected. In particular, Bassman pointed out how the university is moving towards establishing an honors college, thus creating the need for upper-level honors seminar courses. Batie moved to approve the new course proposals from the Honors Program as a package, and Smith seconded. The motion passed without dissent.
- No one from Theatre & Dance attended the meeting, so consideration of their items was postponed.
- The meeting adjourned at 2:19.

Examples include “Intimate Violence: Out of the Shadows,” “The Islamic World,” “South Africa: Transition from Apartheid to Democracy,” and “Terrorism and September 11.”
HNRS 3014. Honors Seminar in the Science (3) (WI) (GE:SC) May be repeated for maximum of 6 s.h. with change of topic. Topic varies by semester. Examples include “Integrating Science and the Arts,” “Science and Religion,” “Disease and Animal Populations,” and “How Things Work-Physics and Chemistry in Our Daily Lives.”
HNRS 3015. Honors Science Laboratory (1) (GE:SC) Accompanies HNRS 3014 when considered appropriate by science department offering the seminar.
