The University Curriculum Committee met on Thursday, 12
September 1996 at 1:30 p.m. in Brewster B-104.
Also present were Don Sexauer, Chair of the Faculty, and
Richard Ringeisen, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Chair Sexauer offered brief remarks concerning committee
service and commended committee members for their
upcoming service on this very important committee.
Vice Chancellor Ringeisen also offered brief remarks and
was available to answer questions posed by committee
members.
Committee members were introduced and officers
subsequently elected. the following were elected for service
during the 1996-1997 academic year.
James O. Smith, Chair
Bob Joyner, Vice Chair
Tijjani Mohammed, Catalog Secretary
Donald Neal, Recording Secretary
Discussion of several issues followed including a workshop
for faculty involved in curriculum matters, admission
requirements and caps on majors admitted to programs,
electron submission of course proposals, Percentage of
degree requirements fulfilled by internships, etc.
Ayers moved that a request be sent to departments with
courses listed in the catalog that have not been taught in the
past three years be either retained for use in the near future,
banked until such time that they are needed, or deleted.
Neal seconded. the motion passed.
Grossnickle moved that March 27, 1997 be the last meeting
at which curriculum matters would be considered for
inclusion in the 1997-1998 catalog. Powers seconded. The
motion passed.
The committee asked that a copy of the University
Curriculum Committee guidelines be distributed with these
minutes.
The meeting adjourned at 2:33 p.m.
