ECU Academic Awards Committee
Annual Report for
Academic Year 2004-2005
The only business before this committee in this academic year was
the evaluation of nominees for the teaching and research awards for which our
committee is responsible. Nominations were submitted according to previously
established policies and procedures for all but the Research and Creative
Activity Awards. The nomination process
for the Research and Creative Activity Awards was conducted for the first time
under new policies and procedures established by the
For the University Awards for Excellence in Teaching and the
Robert Jones Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching, a subcommittee chaired by
Professor Lida Cope, with Prof Ed Stellwag and Lecturer Ruth Moskop of this
committee, and with the assistance of delegates from Academic Affairs, Health
Sciences, and Alumni, evaluated nineteen nominee portfolios and videotapes for
the top twelve nominees.
A subcommittee chaired by Professor Linda Wolfe, with Prof Sylvie
Henning and student representative Maggie O'Neill of this committee, with
assistance of delegates from Academic Affairs, Health Sciences, and Continuing
Education, evaluated four nominee portfolios, with demo CDs, for the Max Ray
Joyner award for Excellence in Service through Continuing Education and
Distance Education.
A subcommittee chaired by Charles Boklage, with Profs Gemperline
and Jantzen of this committee, evaluated four nominee portfolios for the
Five-Year Achievement awards and five for the Lifetime Achievement awards for
Excellence in Research and Creative Activity.

Distinguished Professor for Teaching.
