Academic Standards  Committee

 

1.       Membership : Lisa Barricella (Secretary), Arunas Juska, George Bailey Cchairperson), Jim Decker (Vice-Chairperson), Kenneth Bass, Margaret Bauer, Thomas McConnell. Ex-Officio: Michael Bassman, Rita Reaves, Zack Robinson, Jim Toppen, Maggie O’Neill.

 

 2.        Meeting Dates:

3.         Subcommittees established during the year (include progress and/or completion of work). Jim Decker was elected to serve as the Academic Standards Committee representative to the University Athletic Committee.

 

4.      Accomplishments during the year, especially as addressed through committee goals.  Please include recommendations made to any University agency other than the Faculty Senate that will be noted under #5.

 

Public hearings on General Education Goals Proposal September 21 and  22, 2004.

Published a call for proposals for experimental Foundations courses to be offerd in Spring 2006.

 

5.       Reports to the Faculty Senate (include dates and resolution numbers).

 

Humanities credit for Russian 3230, Russian and Soviet Film.

Humanities credit for CLAS 3500.

 Fine Arts credit for MUSC 2207 and MUSC 3048.

Social Science credit for ECON 3365.

Math credit for MATH 2228 and MATH 2283.

New General Education goals proposal (Liberal Arts Foundations Curriculum Goals).

Revised Peer Review Instrument.

Humanities  credit for RUSI 2001, RUSI 2002 and RUSI 2003.

Social Science credit for HIST 3413, HIST 3414 3414 - The Celtic World, 700 BC-1601 AD. After discussion, revisions to the course proposal were requested.HIST 3444, HIST 3444, HIST 3445, HIST 3445, HIST 3482 and HIST 3484.

Fine Arts credit for MUSC 2257.

 

6.       Business carried over to next year (list in priority order).

Evaluate experimental course proposals.

Develop guidelines for evaluating courses for Foundations credit.

 

7.       Evaluation of the committee (include anything that hindered or assisted the

          committee's work during the year).

          A.      Charge:  OK.

          B.      Personnel: OK.

          C.      Attendance: Poor.

          D.      Responsibilities: OK.

          E.      Activities: Outstanding.

 

8.       Suggestion(s) to the Chair of the Faculty and/or Faculty Senate for improving the

          effectiveness of the committee.

Replace members who miss two meetings.

 

9.       Does the Committee’s organizational meeting next year need to be earlier than the date set this year?  Yes.

                    If yes, when do you prefer: Sept. 9 or 12, 2005.
