3.      Subcommittees established during the year (include progress and/or completion of work).  None

4.      Accomplishments during the year, especially as addressed through committee goals.  Please include recommendations made to any University agency other than the Faculty Senate that will be noted under #5.

·  Considered and rejected combining Fall Break and Thanksgiving Break.

·  Contributed concerns about the Scheduling Practices Document; the concerns and comments were then forwarded to the Provost.

·  Changes in the calendar resulting from changing Fall and Spring commencement to Friday were studied and incorporated in the calendars being created.

·  Compared the ECU calendar with calendars at other UNC schools.

·  In response to student concerns, clarified the policy relative to final examinations and religious holidays.

5.       Reports to the Faculty Senate (include dates and resolution numbers).

  • Approved Summer 2009, Fall 2009, Spring 2010 calendars.  (08-11)

6.       Business carried over to next year (list in priority order).

  • Continue communication and coordination with Pitt Community College and Pitt County Schools.
  • Continue comparing ECU calendar with calendars at other UNC schools.
  • Consider week break at Thanksgiving.
  • Continue study of faculty information calendar.
  • Talk with the Graduate Administrative Board about dates in the calendar concerning graduate students.

7.       Evaluation of the committee (include anything that hindered or assisted the

          committee's work during the year).

A.  Charge:  No problems

B.  Personnel:  The committee worked well together.  The Faculty Senator representative position needs to be filled.  Unlike past years, the SGA representative attended meetings and contributed to the committee.

C.  Attendance:  Faculty teaching schedules limit choices of when the committee can meet; however there were no meetings at which we lacked a quorum.  It was difficult finding a meeting time in the spring that fit the schedules of all members.

D.  Responsibilities:  No problems.

E.  Activities:  The committee created a calendar for the 2009-2010 academic year, as is its charge.

8.       Suggestion(s) to the Chair of the Faculty and/or Faculty Senate for improving the effectiveness of the committee.

The position for the Faculty Senator representative position needs to be filled.

9.       Does the Committee’s organizational meeting next year need to be earlier than the date set this year?  No.

                              Signed:       Chairperson   John Crammer

                                                  Secretary     Johna Faulconer
