3.      Subcommittees established during the year (include progress and/or completion of work).

  • Healthcare Plan/Benefits Satisfaction Survey: Questionnaire distributed to faculty and results tabulated; report to Faculty Senate in progress.
  • Mentoring: Subcommittee met with D. Muller, Director of Center for Faculty Excellence, and J. Newman; recommendation on mentoring policy in progress.  Recommendation submitted to Faculty Senate Office to revise data in Faculty Welfare Committee’s 2005 link on mentoring.
  • UNC Tomorrow Response: Draft response in progress.
  • Faculty Salary: Analysis of salary data in progress.

 

4.      Accomplishments during the year, especially as addressed through committee goals.  Please include recommendations made to any University agency other than the Faculty Senate that will be noted under #5.

Report (10/25/2007) to Faculty Chair Mark Taggart that the UNC Policy Manual 300.4.2. on nepotism does not preclude ECU from having a partner hire policy.  The Faculty Welfare Committee also recommended that ECU develop a partner hire assistance program.

 

Recommendation (11/7/2007) to Faculty Chair Mark Taggart  and Announcement to Faculty Senate (11/28/2007) that ECU create a faculty applicant verification system similar to that of UNC-Chapel Hill. The background information is to be shared with the appropriate dean. If it is determined that there is a concern warranting non-employment, the dean will review the information with the Provost and Chair of the Faculty (or designee) to determine the appropriate action.

 

Recommendation made to Academic Affairs and Human Resources (12/13/2007) that relocation assistance information be sent to new faculty with initial contract letter and that a procedure be developed that would allow faculty to bypass the mandatory video on ECU’s online housing website.

 

As a result of committee’s investigations into parking for retired faculty, six additional designated parking spaces were added for retirees at various locales around campus.
