Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 P.M.

 

Minutes

The minutes from the December 6, 2004 meeting were approved as submitted.

 

Old Business

Faculty Senate passed the Goals document as submitted without making any revisions.

 

New Business

Discussion centered around creating standards to have in place for decision making on future course proposals requesting General Education credit in light of the approval of the revised Goals document.

 

Representatives from Foreign Languages & Literatures, History, Music and Political Science were on hand to speak to the following proposals:

 

RUSI 2001, RUSI 2002 and RUSI 2003

RUSI 2001-Introduction to Russian Studies: Humanities sought general education (humanities) credit.

RUSI 2002-Introduction to Russian Studies: Social Science sought general education (social science) credit.

RUSI 2003-Introduction to Russian Studies: Fine Arts sought general education (fine arts) credit.

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education credit to all three proposed courses. After discussion, the motion passed contingent upon the addition of a sentence to address research in RUSI 2003.

 

HIST 3413

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST 3413 - A History of Christianity, 1300-present. After discussion, the motion passed.

 

HIST 3414

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3414 - The Celtic World, 700 BC-1601 AD. After discussion, revisions to the course proposal were requested.

 

HIST 3444

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3444 - Old Regime and Revolutionary France. After discussion, the motion passed.

 

HIST 3445

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3445 - Modern France, 1815-present. After discussion, the motion passed.

 

HIST 3482

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3482 – Britain, 1688-1832. After discussion, the motion passed.

 

HIST 3484

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3484 – Britain, from 1832. After discussion, the motion passed.

 

HIST 3551

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3551 – Medieval Russia, 862-1682. After discussion, revisions to the course proposal were requested.

 

HIST 3552

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3552 – Imperial Russia, 1682-1917. After discussion, revisions to the course proposal were requested.

 

HIST 3553

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for HIST

3553 – Soviet Russia, 1917-1991. After discussion, revisions to the course proposal were requested.

 

MUSC 2257

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (fine arts) credit for MUSC 2257 – Jazz Appreciation. After discussion, the motion passed contingent upon a strengthened statement addressing goal #2 of the fine art requirements.

 

SECS 1000

A motion was made and seconded to grant general education (social science) credit for SECS 1000 – Introduction to Security Studies. After discussion, revisions to the course proposal were requested.

 

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 P.M.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 21, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. in 142 Rawl Annex.
