VISITORS:

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. in Rawl 142 by Shanan Gibson.

Angela Anderson informed the committee of some concerns about the calendar from administrators.  There is a request to move the date for late fees for the Spring semester to the first working day of the year to allow for flexibility in choice of year to pay the fees for tax purposes.  Dee Bowling, Cashier, had told Anderson that it is okay for the Spring fees date to be the first working day of the year.  Another concern is that the date for the last day to add classes has a time of 5:00 p.m. which is a problem for students taking a class that meets one night a week on Thursday; the request is to move the time to 10:00 p.m..  The committee cannot change the date (it is set in the catalog) and decided not to change the time.  The re-admission date of July needs to be changed to August (the date needs to be corrected for all sessions); also the calendar should specify that the re-admission appeal should be to the Student Academic Appellate Committee.

The committee next considered the proposed 2011-2012 calendar.  Terry Jones pointed out dates in the summer calendar that need to be fixed for consistency and to correct errors.  She also pointed out corrections for the Fall and Spring calendars.  The start date for classes in Spring 2012 should be January 6.  Anderson considered changing the date for grades to Monday (faculty friendly) but decided to keep the Friday date so students can add classes (student friendly).

Crammer will do the changes and send the proposed calendar to Gibson to check.  Gibson will contact Lori Lee to place the Calendar Committee proposals and information on the agenda for the March meeting of the Faculty Senate.

Jones moved (Britton Theurer seconded) approval of the December 8, 2009 minutes.  Motion passed.  Theurer moved (Anderson seconded) approval of the 2011-2012 calendar as modified.  Motion passed.

The committee will not meet in February.  The committee will meet in April to report on the Faculty Senate actions, work on the committee’s annual report, and update the internal guidelines for calendars.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m..
