ACTIONS OF MEETING
Agenda Item: Name Change of the BCTE Department
Discussion:
Dr. Wallace explained the evolution of the Department of Business, Career, and
Technical Education and recommendations/practice of the NC Department of Public
Instruction to refer to similar departments as “Department of Business and
Information Technologies Education”. Therefore, the ECU BCTE Department is
requesting a corresponding name change. He has discussed this change with the
Action Taken:
Dr. Mitchell moved and Dr. Kean seconded approval for the Department of
Business, Career, and Technical Education to change its name to the Department
of Business and Information Technologies Education. Unanimous vote.

Agenda Item:
New concentration in the Math MA degree
Discussion:
Drs. Ratcliff and Ries presented the proposed expansion of the MA in
Mathematics to include a concentration in “Mathematics in the Community
College”. This request is based on the need to prepare math graduate students
to teach in community colleges. This will be an impressive ECU recruiting tool.
Action Taken: Dr.
Kean moved and Dr. Tovey seconded acceptance of the addition of the
“Mathematics in Community College” concentration to the Math MA degree. Unanimous vote.
