I. Call to order

The meeting was called to order by Mark Taggart, Chair of the faculty

Officers were elected: Martinez was elected chair, Justiniano was elected Vice Chair

Jones was elected Secretary with the understanding that the duty will be filled in by regular members on a rotating basis. Jones will disseminate a proposed rotation to regular members, excluding Martinez and Justiniano.

II. ECU officials working on SACS accreditation have requested input from the Faculty Governance Committee (FGC), at least two members or designates of the Committee. The FGC will grant speaking privileges to the proper SACS representatives at a future meeting.

Most of the meeting was spent discussing the proposed revision to Appendix L, the proposed faculty review of administrators. Taggart briefly reviewed the relevant events relating to this proposed revision which occurred over the summer. In a letter addressed to Provost Sheerer dated August 31, Chancellor Ballard directed Provost Sheerer, along with Vice Chancellors Mageean and Horn, to assemble a task force to advise the Chancellor on hiring and evaluation policies of administrators.

After discussion, Horns made a motion that the FGC abort the attempt to amend Appendix L with this document, and that the document be submitted to the task force so they can consider incorporating appropriate portions of the document into their report.

Rigsby made a substitute motion, which was accepted by Horns as a friendly amendment, to present revisions to the existing document to include input from future open faculty forums. Since the task force has been given a November 1, 2007 deadline, the forums and any revisions must be presented to the Chancellor’s task force on or before October 15.

Open forums will be held on September 18, September 20 and September 21.

Bailey and Cope will make editorial revisions to the existing document prior to the open forums, and will submit these editorial revisions to the entire committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Jones, Ph.D.

Professor

Dept. of Criminal Justice
