1) Motion to approve minutes
unanimously approved
2) Stephen requested, on the
behalf of the students, to make additional Faculty Study Rooms available for
student use
- Some of the faculty have given up their study
areas and these rooms have been opened to the students
- Jan suggested converting the majority of the
faculty study areas to student study areas (with the exception of retired
faculty and special situations)
- Action: Jan will check to see if additional
rooms can be open
- James made motion to recommend the Faculty Study
rooms in Joyner Library be open for general usage with the exception of
special needs, Margit seconded and the motion was unanimously approved
3) Feedback on Conference on
the Book proposal
- Tom presented the abstract to the committee and
will seek input from committee once the paper is accepted
4) Report from Joyner
- Day to day on the budget
- Submitted many scheduled invoices, but there weren’t
sufficient funds to cover; if invoices are not covered, will have to make
substantial cuts next year.
- Closed LibQual study
- Action: Jan will analyze and present the LibQual results at the first meeting of fall semester
5) Report from Laupus provided by Dorothy
- Acquired the Speac
collection of medical history, worth approximately $500,000
- Budget goals: goal is to preserve staff and
virtual library
- Completed the information expo, which was well
received
6) Goals of 2008/2009
- Discussion of space allocation
- Oversight of the budget
- Opened 12 private study rooms for the students
- Completed LibQual
survey
- Discussion of Virtual Library
- Discussion of departmental liaisons
- Changes were made to deselection
procedures based on libraries committee feedback
- Submission to Conference on the Book
- Discussion of special collections
Wishlist
- Encourage faculty to participate in
institutional repository
- Encourage members of the committee to submit to
the institutional repository
- Dorothy suggested spending one of next year’s
meeting as a field trip to country doctor museum
- Expansion of ECU libraries facebook
group
