The Committee was informed that 13 proposals from the 2008-2009 competition have been funded, for a total of approximately $220,000.

With permission from the Faculty Chair, the due date for new proposals will be Tuesday January 19, 2010, the day after Martin Luther King Day.

Guidelines for new proposals were reviewed, and the following changes to the previously circulated draft were approved:

p. 10, 10. If funded, may Faculty Senate Office provide copies of your application by email request as a model for prospective ECU applicants?

The method for sharing copies of funded applications was discussed: If the applicant has given permission, any ECU faculty member can request a copy of the proposal using a link on the Faculty Senate web page. The request will go to the Faculty Senate office, and a copy will be forwarded by email. No proposals will appear on the web.

The Chair suggested a division into four subcommittees for preliminary review of proposals: Humanities, Natural Science, Social Science, and Health. There will be five members on each subcommittee. Membership of the subcommittees will be finalized by the Chair at a later date.

The issue of electronic vs paper copies was discussed. After a straw poll of the members present, it was determined that approximately three members of each subcommittee will require paper copies. Applicants will be asked to submit a pdf file and five paper copies, including two copies for the Faculty Senate office.

The Committee proposed open meetings for prospective applicants on Thursday, December 3 and Friday, December 4 at 3pm. (The December 3 meeting was moved to 4pm.)
