Actions of Meeting

I.                   Academic Integrity Subcommittee

Taggart began the meeting by opening the Academic Integrity Subcommittee.  Taggart related recent remarks by Athletics Director Holland regarding the Academic Progress Rate (APR) data recently released by the NCAA.  Dosser expressed thoughts regarding ECU’s APR status.  Thompson provided an overview of how the APR is calculated and a team-by-team breakdown of ECU’s APR report.

II.        Faculty Athletic Representative Report

Dosser described a recent Conference USA meeting he attended.  He is on the Conference USA Strategic Planning Committee.  A major effort of this committee will be to establish “fairness in scheduling”’ with a major effort to reduce missed class time across the Conference.  He also described efforts to have Conference USA athletes deemed “visiting students” while at other Conference institutions.  “Visiting student” status would enable Conference athletes to utilize the academic support system of the institution they are visiting.

III.       Goals for the Remainder of the Academic Year

Taggart solicited items for the committee to pursue for the next meeting.  It was suggested that the tradition of inviting coaches to meet with the committee be continued.  It was also suggested that athletes be invited to meet with the committee.  Taggart indicated he will extend an invitation to Coach Stokes and selected athletes.
