The issue of sports agents was discussed.  Dr. Dosser outlined the composition and function of the Professional Sports Counsel.

The Basketball Working Group of the NCAA has examined the issue of missed class time.  The FAR, in conjunction with the UAC, will receive reports each semester detailing travel schedules and associated missed class time for men’s and women’s basketball.

The possibility of uploading team/athlete travel schedules for access via one stop was discussed.  Nita Boyce stated that she would explore the feasibility of doing so.

Nita Boyce (Director of Student Development Office)

Introduced Dr. John Fletcher.  The Student Development Office will report to Dr. Fletcher in Academic Affairs.

Some increase in personnel in Student Development is anticipated.

Dr. Christian asked if there would be functional differences resulting from the new report structure.  Ms. Boyce responded that the operations would profit from greater integration with AA.  Ms. Boyce meets with Dr. Fletcher on a weekly basis.

Terry Holland (Director of Athletics)

Stated that 50% of ECU student athletes were on the CUSA honor roll (3.0+ GPA) and that 10% received the conference academic medal (3.75+ GPA).

Coaches receive the same bonus (one month salary equivalence) for either an academic or athletic conference championship.

Last season the men’s golf and tennis teams each won a conference academic championship.

Cited the Academic Banquet and the Breakfast of Champions as events that highlight the academic achievements of ECU student-athletes.

Commended the success of the football team citing, in particular, the efforts of the coaching staff.

Stated that efforts would be made to address the few issues of fan behavior that occurred at the NCSU football game.

The women’s soccer team is in 6th place and will make the tournament if it finishes there or higher.

The volleyball team only has one win.  The season has not gone well but the players have not given up.

Nick Floyd (Associate Director of Athletics):

APR data are due to the NCAA soon.

Rosie Thompson (Senior Women’s Administrator)

Confirmed that the APR will now follow the coach.

Affirmed that the softball team’s APR has been perfect for four consecutive years.

Old Business

Dr. Dosser summarized his report to the Faculty Senate.  Committee members can look at FS minutes for details.

The nature of the Academic Integrity Subcommittee was discussed.  In light of the recent breach in Academic Integrity in the tutoring program it was suggested that the committee be sure to focus on oversight regarding integrity issues.

New Business

There is a pressing need to update the Minority Opportunity Plan associated with the last NCAA certification process.  This effort was started last year but did not get very far.  This needs attention ahead of the 2012 review.  Dr. Parker agreed to serve on the committee.  The fact that the committee might need to go outside it’s membership for minority representation was discussed.  Dr. Altman is going to work on filling the committee.

It was also acknowledged that the Gender Equity Plan should be reviewed.  This was last done in 2008.  Dr. Felts and Ms. Mize agreed to work with this.

Facility update

Stacy suggested that we might take a facility tour following the November meeting.  The time table for facility completion includes:
