The committee did not have a
quorum of regular members for the second consecutive meeting.
Dr. Hodson indicated that that
the committee present could act as subcommittee of the whole. He noted that actions of the subcommittee
would be subject to approval by the whole committee. He will consult with the faculty leadership
to clarify the quorum issue of 4 versus 5 regular members.
A motion was made to ratify
the election held at the August 24th meeting where a subcommittee of
the whole elected Charles Hodson as chair, Zach Robinson as vice chair, and
Hunt McKinnon as secretary.
Approval of the motion is
subject to ratification by the whole committee.

Member Gill alerted the
committee to the removal of two dead trees adjacent to the baseball
stadium. The trees did not survive the
construction despite attempts to protect and nourish them during and after
construction. Several 7 inch diameter
maples and at a later date, 7 inch diameter oaks will be transplanted to
replace the existing trees.
The committee continued its
discussion of issues and possible agenda items begun at the August 24th
meeting. Topics mentioned included green
buildings, improving energy conservation in old buildings, surveying campus to
identify historic buildings and landscape features worthy of preservation,
review of the master plan, and smoking cessation efforts.
Jami Jones indicated that
there was an environmental interest group in the school of education. They have interests on including
environmental issues in the curriculum and preparing teachers present these
issues in their courses as teachers.
Dr. Hodson will invite a
representative from George Harrell’s office to review the status of the campus
master plan with the committee.
The committee
