Admissions and Recruitment Committee Date: 8/26/96 Description of the Action: The following officers were elected by acclimation for the 96 -97 term. John Cope - President Louis Warren - Vice President Steve Mead - Secretary Description of the Action: John Cope reviewed accomplishments of the committee from last year, and Business which was carried over to the new year. Business carried over, and business for the new year will include: - Development of a program for Summer High School Scholars - Development of admissions standards for Home Schooled Students - Review of Recruiting Program at the University - Investigation into the role of faculty in student recruitment - Investigation into admission policies regarding international students Description of the Action: Marion Sykes discussed admissions efforts and student populations for the 96 - 97 year. The Freshman class has a average SAT score of approximately 1051, which is substantially higher than in years past. Also, minority student enrollment has increased over 10% this year. Overall, there has been a slight gain (160 students) over last years university population. Sykes also noted that the new Non Traditional Student policy of the General Administration resulted in the loss of approximately 165 students. Description of the Action: Committee reviewed its goals for the 1996-1997 session. In addition to business carried over from last year, the following goals were set: - Gulati suggested that the committee review the recruitment efforts of the University. It was agreed that the Admissions department would develop a presentation which will outlilne recruitment efforts for the committee. Committee agreed to handle this as future business - Ringeisen suggested that the committee review the role of faculty in student recruitment, and develop suggestions which can be used to enhance recruiting at the university. - Gulati suggested that a member of international affairs attend the committee's meetings. Given the University Strategic Plan for increasing foreign student enrollment, the committe agreed to review the admission and recruitment policies related to international students. Committee agreed to handle this as future business.
