COMMITTEE: Admissions & Recruitment MEETING DATE: October 2, 2000 PERSON PRESIDING: John Cope REGULAR MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Cope, Duffy, Walsh, Morrison EX-OFFICIO MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Clayton, Sessoms. OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: none ACTIONS OF THE MEETING: Description of action: The minutes of the September 11, 2000 meeting were approved. Jack Karns will be unable to represent Bob Morrison on this committee for the remainder of the year. Dr. Morrison will sit in until a replacement can be found. Description of action: Deferred long range planning until the November meeting so as to discuss committee consolidation going before the faculty Senate this month. Proposed committee consolidation includes this committee (and Credits, Readmission Appeals, Student Advising, and Retention Committees), and was put before the Faculty Senate without notification to this committee. Chairman Cope expressed his displeasure at the procedure by which this occurred. Sessoms expressed concern over the consolidation and potential lack of future involvement with interested parties who do not officially sit on committees (Continuing Ed, International Affairs, etc.) but was assured by Morrison that committees are allowed to invite whom ever they wish to participate on them. Morrison suggested committees make a resource list at their first meeting that includes the type of personnel who would provide valuable input. It was noted that there was no mention of the appellate processes with each of these committees is currently charged, nor a time frame for the change to occur. Morrison acknowledged there were a few details yet unsolved, but he is excited over the proposed change. This committee joined Cope in expressing support for the consolidation. Follow-up action required: none NEXT MEETING: November 6, 2000 ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED: Long range enrollment projections Marketing, recruiting & retaining students west of I-95
