Description of action: The committee agreed to put ideas together for recruiting students - especially in eastern North Carolina - and forward these ideas up the chain of command of the university. Ideas included: discussion on what needs to be done to recruit local students; bringing in ATP students early (before August); offering scholarship opportunities for under privileged students; offering Honors Seminars for outstanding high school students (during the summer in between their junior and Senior years) to promote undergraduate offerings for them at ECU; looking into the UNC inclusive design for admissions (whereby all high schools who have students apply for admission are represented); how we should consider a rigid inclusion design for admission for eastern North Carolina students; how community colleges can help attract students here; and finally, the committee recognized an opportunity lost with the Regional High School Basketball playoffs last week. With over 12,000 in attendance, it was an excellent chance to display admissions information to our region. NEXT MEETING: April 2, 2001, in Rawl Annex, #142.
