COMMITTEE: Writing Across the Curriculum MEETING DATE: February 26, 1998 PERSON PRESIDING: Chris Ulffers ACTIONS OF MEETING: Description of action: * Chris thanked Lynn for an outstanding job of leading the committee during his unavoidable absences * Minutes from the January 22nd meeting were approved. * Minutes from the September 25th meeting were amended to include Myra Brown as present and were then approved. Description of action: *Gay Wilentz was present to provide further information and clarification regarding her proposal for WOST 4200 - Women's Studies - "Feminist Theory.77 * Motion carried to designate WOST 4200 WI pending editorial change regarding proposal and clarification of response to question #3. Disposition: Rita will notify Gay Wilentz regarding the request for an editorial change Description of action: *History 3000 - "The Nature and Methods of History77 - Rita stated that the professor had forwarded his syllabus to the committee for the purposes of updating information regarding this WI course Description of action: * Motion passed that Rita will have the opportunity to pre- screen WI proposals for such things as completed information and appropriate forms which will expedite the process for all involved. Description of action: *The following proposals were approved for WI designation: MIDG 5993 - "Readings in Middle Grades Education" SPED 5501 - "Minor Problems in Special Education" Political Science 4551 (Honors) Political Science 4552 (Honors) Description of action: * The question was raised whether or not SPAN 2330 (2103) had passed as WI. The designation was approved at the last meeting and so noted in the minutes. Rita will follow up with contact with the faculty who are involved in the teaching of this course. Description of action: *The committee reviewed and discussed WI models submitted by Terri Woods. The committee agreed to make the following changes to the "Writing Across the Curriculum Program Handbook" - page 14: 1. Delete question # 3 and change to "How will the student's work be evaluated? In other words, how will students receive feedback on their writing (i.e. conferences, external review, graded review, peer review, selected assignments, writing center?) Question #4 now reads as follows: "How will this feedback be used to improve their writing?" 2. Page 11 will eventually contain more specific information regarding the services of the Writing Center. Description of action: * Director's Report - Rita provided the following information: - She is currently working on a Website for WAC - Institutional Planning and Research provided some numbers and statistics to look at regarding the impact of WI courses . They will continue to do so in the future as well. - The idea for a student WI handbook has been suggested . THE NEXT WAC MEETING WILL BE HELP MARCH 26TH AT 3:00 P.M. IN RAWL ANNEX #142
