COMMITTEE: WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM MEETING DATE: March 27, 1997 PERSON PRESIDING: Rita Reaves, Lynn Eudey ACTIONS OF MEETING: Description of action: Item: Dr. Marilyn Sheerer was present to offer information regarding proposal for MIDG 3001 be designated as WI Description of action: Motion carried that MIDG 3001 be designated as WI. Description of action: Rita reviewed the Director's Report and asked the committee members to review statement regarding transfer of credits into ECU as WI. Please see memo dated March 3, 1997 to members of the WAC Committee from Rita Reaves. After lengthy discussion, the committee submitted the following revised statements: If a writing course from another institution transfers as credit for a numbered ECU course, and the ECU course is writing intensive, then the transferred credit hours will count as writing intensive for ECU degree requirements. A writing course is one whose primary content is writing according to its course title and description. Examples are ENGL 3880 and ITEC 3290. Description of action: Motion carried that Rita share these statements with Dean Muller and other appropriate offices for suggestions regarding these revisions. Description of action: The committee members reviewed the request that GEOG 2003 be designated as WI. Description of action: Motion carried that GEOG 2003 be designated as WI. Description of action: The committee members reviewed the request that SOCW 4990 be designated as WI. Description of action: Motion carried that SOCW 4990 be designated as WI. Description of action: Item: Rita shared information regarding a seminar for 1st year (and any interested faculty) regarding writing across the curriculum. The seminar is co- sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development. Rita encouraged members of the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee to attend if at all possible. The seminar will take place April 16, 1997 from 2:30-4:00 in Rawl, room 106. Item: Rita shared information regarding a teaching luncheon held on February 20, 1997 at which, as the guest speaker, she provided attendees with information regarding writing across the curriculum. Item: Rita shared a memo forwarded to all department chairs and academic deans(see memo dated March 19, 1997) regarding the possibility of each department developing a WI independent study course.
