COMMITTEE: Writing Across the Curriculum MEETING DATE: March 26, 1998 ACTIONS OF MEETING: Description of action: Lynn Eudey presided over the meeting. Minutes from the February 26th meeting were approved. Description of action: Discussion of CDFR 3200 - "Developmental Assessment and Intervention with Young Children" and the request that it be designated as WI. Motion carried to designate CDFR 3200 as WI. Description of action: Discussion of ART 2910 - "Ancient Art" - and request that it be designated as W1. After much deliberation, it was decided that this proposal should be tabled. Rita will invite Dr. Pruitt to attend the next meeting regarding several questions the members of the committee had regarding her proposal. Description of action: Rita Reaves gave the Director's Report. To celebrate the ten year anniversary, the original questionnaire ( March 14, 1988) instrument may be redistributed to faculty members. Discussion was held regarding the applicability of all questions included in the original document. In 1988 the following information was collected in response to the question regarding the number of students demonstrating adequate writing abilities: 28% Freshman 34% Sophomores 46% Juniors Rita suggested that we might gather valuable information regarding changes in these percentiles. Responses to question #6 would be very helpful in gathering comparative data. It was also pointed out that the guidelines for WI are now more specific. The following suggestions were made regarding the questionnaire: question #6 - include question # 7 - include question #8 - include question #9 - revise question #10 - include Rita asked that committee members send suggestions for revising question #3 to her. Description of action The Committee discussed the possibility of holding a training workshop for WI and WAC - It was further suggested that these workshops might be discipline specific. Further suggestions included the need for technical assistance. Description of action Rita shared information regarding several conferences for WAC. Faculty members should contact her if they are interested in attending.
