Writing Across the Curriculum Committee
Minutes for 26 April 2001

- Committee approved minutes for 22 February 2001
- Committee approved minutes for 22 March 2001, with the provision that the missing member
First order of business:
- David White from the Department of Health presented the WI course proposals for:
- HLTH 4500, section 099, 3 credit independent study
- HLTH 4501, section 099, 2 credit independent study
- HLTH 4502, section 099, 1 credit independent study
- Committee discussed the need for courses and/or other arrangements that allow transfer students and students nearing graduation to complete WI requirements
- Committee discussed the need for revisions to the writing across the curriculum handbook that address credit differences between courses; the handbook currently focuses only on 3 credit courses
- Committee unanimously voted to designate HLTH 4500, 4501, 4502, sections 099 as WI
Second order of business:
- Committee discussed with Morrison plans to reorganize the committee as an administrative advisory committee to the Program Director in the Fall 2001 semester
Third order of business:
- Committee unanimously agreed that NURS 3520, previously designated WI as NURS 4320, is WI
Fourth order of business:
- Committee reaffirmed its vote, made via email, to designate THEA 3075 as WI
Fifth order of business:
- Committee reaffirmed its vote, made via email, to designate MULT 3500 and 4999 as WI, with the provision that the program provide the following additional information:
- Identify WI model the courses are using
- Identify the specific sections of MULT to be designated WI
- Submit the WI course proposal to the committee before finalizing plans
Sixth order of business:
- Committee discussed procedures for reverse WI designation, raised last meeting by the Department of Foreign Language’s request to reverse WI designation for SPAN 2440
- Committee agreed that Chairs of departments might submit a letter requesting reverse designation to the Director of the Writing Across the Curriculum Program, specifying the course number and sections to have WI designation reversed
- Committee agreed that redesignating a course as WI should involve reapplication for WI status for the course and sections involved
Seventh order of business:
- Bizzaro reported in his capacity as Director of the Writing Across the Curriculum Program
- Bizzaro has been working to create a master list of all the courses designated WI in the history of the Writing Across the Curriculum Program; this master list will be available on the Writing Across the Curriculum webpage
- Satellite centers for writing consultation are up and running in buildings throughout the campus
- Bizzaro is planning to create online writing consultation that will supplement campus writing consultation for students who are taking online courses
- Bizzaro plans to undertake revisions to the Writing Across the Curriculum handbook over the summer
- The Writing Across the Curriculum annual report is in process and should be ready this week
