Item:  Brenda Killingsworth, Chair of 
Faculty, gave opening remarks.  She 
requested the committee to consider 
streamlining of committee work when 
establishing committee goals.  In 
addition, she shared that the Faculty 
Senate Office will be staffed by student 
helpers Monday - Thursday 10 - 5, Friday 
10 - 3 as Lori Lee is on maternity leave 
for Fall semester.

Item:  Rita Reaves distributed WAC folder 
and reviewed.  In addition she reviewed 
the Writing Across the Curriculum Program 
Handbook. Also distributed were the 
Writing Intensive Courses approved by WAC 
up to June 1999.  She shared with the 
committee a flyer - Writing Requirement 
for Graduation from ECU.  This flyer is 
posted campus wide.  Lastly, she shared 
the Writing Assessment:  A Position 
Statement from the CCCC Committee.  
Presently, enough WI courses exist campus 
wide to facilitate students meeting WI 
credit.  Dr. Reaves discussed WAC 
challenges for the upcoming year.  These 
challenges include: 
1) Working with the English department in WI 
course development/refinement

2) Transfer students who have taken a course 
elsewhere and the course transfers in without 
WI focus

3) Faculty incentives for teaching WIC - at 
present department specific, and 

4) Upper level departmental WI courses.

Item:  Four proposals for review at 
September meeting

Item:  Identification of committee goals 
deferred to September meeting.  Committee 
members encouraged to communicate with 
Chair any suggestions for committee goals.
