Re: GEOG 1000 social science foundation credit approval

The Department of Geography recently received approval from the University Curriculum Committee to change the name of GEOG 1000 from “Introduction to Geography” to “People, Places, and Environments”.  GEOG 1000 has long counted as a social sciences foundations course.  The only change in the course is to its name (to reflect a more contemporary perspective) and a minor edit to the catalog course description to be more gender neutral.  We were informed that we needed to seek foundations credit approval for our re-named course.

We therefore request that GEOG 1000 People, Places, and Environment be approved for social science Foundations credit.

I have attached the Request for Foundation Credit form and a course syllabus that demonstrate how the course meets the three foundation curriculum goals for the basic social sciences.
