Subject:    Ranking of Proposed Programs

Several weeks ago, we received a request from UNC-General Administration that asked us to priority rank the new program proposals from ECU by Friday, December 18th.  Some of these proposals have already been sent to GA; others are in the process of further review on campus.

In order to meet the deadline, we immediately began to ask for feedback from appropriate groups.  We discussed the list of proposals with the deans; we asked for input from the FS officers; we put the question before EPPC; and the Dean of the Graduate School met with some members of the GSAB to solicit their input.

After reviewing the feedback we received, the Academic Council met with Linner Griffin, whose office facilitates the academic program development process, and we agreed on the following ranking which we forwarded to UNC-GA:

1.       PhD in Biology

2.       MS in Biomedical Sciences

3.       MS in Sustainable Tourism

4.       PhD in Chemistry

5.       PhD in Epidemiology

6.       BS in Applied Atmospheric Science

7.       BS in Geographic Information Science and Technology

8.       Doctor of Nursing Practice

9.       MS in Health Informatics

10.   MS in Security Studies

11.   PhD in Economics

12.   MS in Network Technology

13.   PhD in Curriculum and Instruction

14.   MAEd in Gifted Education

15.   MA in Hispanic Studies

16.   BA in Religious Studies

17.   PhD in Intervention Sciences

Our rationale for the ordering of the programs was based on a number of factors:  the alignment of the programs with UNC Tomorrow and ECU Tomorrow; the degree to which the programs presented a strong funding model; the responsiveness of the programs to changing societal needs and credentialing requirements; the degree to which the programs build on ECU’s strengths and support the new vision statement; and the degree to which the program further enhances the research agenda of ECU.
