Memorandum

To:  Educational Policies and Planning Committee

From:  Abbie Brown

            Coordinator, Certificate in Distance Instruction

Date:   March 12, 2009

Subject: Request for change in title

On behalf of the graduate faculty of the Instructional Technology program and the chair, I request that the following change to the Certificate in Distance Instruction:

1.      Change of program title from Certificate in Distance Instruction to Certificate in Distance Learning and Administration.

The rationale for the program name change is that it will more accurately reflect the program content. The certificate curriculum includes education administration (EDTC 7330: Management of Distance Education), which separates the certificate from similar programs that focus solely on developing online instruction.

This change was approved by the College of Education Curriculum Committee on November 17, 2008 and by the Dean of the College of Education on November 24, 2008.

Thank you for your consideration.
