Creation of a Certificate in Computer-based Instruction, College of Education

Faculty Senate Resolution 09-31

Curriculum matters contained in the minutes of the March 26, 2009 and April 9, 2009 committee meetings

I will hold Faculty Senate Resolution 09-30 (Revisions to the ECU Faculty Manual, Part V. Academic Information, Section III, Curriculum Development), pending revisions by the Faculty Senate.

Rationale for holding Resolution 09-30:

The proposed revision to Part V.III.C.1 (Step III, Request for Authorization to Establish), requires an “External review (master’s and doctoral programs only)” after the approval of the “University Curriculum Committee or Graduate Curriculum Committee as appropriate for degree level.”  Currently, external reviews for master’s and doctoral programs are considered by the Graduate Curriculum Committee in their deliberation process.

Currently, the Provost or Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, as appropriate, reviews undergraduate and graduate curriculum changes.  The proposed revision to Part V.III.B., Curriculum Approval Process, omits the Academic Council from the review process for both undergraduate and graduate curriculum changes.
