MEMORANDUM TO: Dr. Mark Taggart, Chair Faculty Senate FROM: Steve Ballard Chancellor DATE: May 21, 2008 SUBJECT: March 2008 Resolution 08-14 Resolution 08-14 is approved with the following exceptions: • modify Section II(C) to read as follows: “The definition of voting faculty outlined in Appendix L of the East Carolina University Faculty Manual for making recommendations on code content to the permanently tenured unit faculty members in the quadrennial evaluations of the effectiveness of unit programs applies.” • modify the second sentence of Section III(A) to read as follows: “The selection and tenure of the office of the Department Chair shall conform with established University policies.” • Eliminate Section VIII (B). • Renumber Section VIII (C) to Section VIII (B). Should the Unit wish to include information concerning the evaluation of Unit Administrators in the Code, a separate section should be created that includes the following: “Unit Administrator Evaluations – Evaluations of the Department Chair shall be in accordance with established University policies.” I look forward to your quick turnaround of this matter.
